In under two weeks, the UCI WorldTour will once again descend on the Low Countries for the Renewi Tour. The World Champion, Belgian and Dutch Champions, the Tour’s green jersey winner, several Tour stage winners, Olympic medallists, and numerous other big hitters have confirmed that they will be at the start. The Renewi Tour is again profiling itself as the cleanest & most sustainable cycling event and has now started a collection of old drinks bottles.
Mathieu van der Poel (World Champion), Arnoud De Lie (Belgian Champion), Dylan Groenewegen (Dutch Champion and Tour de France stage winner), Biniam Girmay (3x stage winner and green jersey Tour de France), Jasper Philipsen (3x stage winner Tour de France), Valentin Madouas (Olympic road race silver), Christophe Laporte (Olympic road race bronze), Filippo Ganna (Olympic time trial silver), Tim Merlier (3x stage winner Giro d’Italia), Tim Wellens (overall winner Renewi Tour 2023), Matej Mohoric (winner final stage Renewi Tour 2023), Jasper Stuyven, Tiesj Benoot and Olav Kooij. These are some of the participants in the Renewi Tour, which will pass through Belgium and part of the Netherlands from 28 August to 1 September.
Re-CYCLE!
The Renewi Tour stays true to its slogan ‘Together we strive for the cleanest & most sustainable cycling event’. Last year, this included the introduction of waste zones for the teams’ waste in the riders’ village, the maximum use of local suppliers and existing buildings and optimal use of digital communication. Renewi also ensured that as much waste as possible, in and alongside the race, was given a new life.
This year, a major collection campaign for old drinks bottles will be launched under the banner Re-CYCLE! From now on, you will find collection points for drinks bottles in all Belgian stage cities. If you share an original photo of your donation on social media and use the hashtags #recycle and #renewitour, you will be in with a chance of winning a VIP ticket or other fun prizes! Full details on Collection campaign drinks bottles – Renewi Tour.
Renewi gives all drinks bottles a new life! The recycling process of drinks bottles starts by shredding, washing, and grinding them into pure mill material ready for reuse. This mill material is then converted into granules, which manufacturers use to make new plastic products, such as packaging, car parts, as well as new drinks bottles and… medals. The medals for the stage winners and the final podium are made from recycled collected drinks bottles.
In addition to being a title partner, Renewi is also a waste partner. Renewi supplies all stage cities with the necessary equipment (containers, wheelie bins, etc.) to organise a clean event. Renewi also collects and processes all the waste.
