The Renewi Tour (19-24 August 2025) is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year with a strong field of participants. After Tim Wellens and Tim Merlier, Mathieu van der Poel, Thibau Nys and Biniam Girmay will also be at the start.
The Renewi Tour has been one of the most important events on the cycling calendar in the Low Countries for many years. This year, the only UCI WorldTour-level stage race in the Benelux is once again guaranteed to deliver spectacle and a strong field of participants.
Three past winners at the start
On Tuesday 19 August, the riders will be presented to the public in Terneuzen in the Netherlands, and a day later, the starting shot for the first stage between Terneuzen and Breskens will sound in the municipality of Zeeland.
The field of participants in this anniversary edition of the Renewi Tour is one with allure. Following the announcement that Belgian Champion and four-time overall winner Tim Wellens and European Champion and fastest man on two wheels Tim Merlier would participate, organiser Golazo is also proud to add a list of other international top riders to the line-up.
Mathieu van der Poel will start in the Renewi Tour in Terneuzen for the third time. In his World Champion jersey, he led Jasper Philipsen to victory in Aalter last year. In 2020, Van der Poel took the overall victory after an impressive solo ride of more than 50 kilometres to finish in Geraardsbergen.
Mathieu: “I have fond memories of the Renewi Tour, especially that victory in 2020. Last year, I was in good shape until I was unfortunately forced to withdraw from the final stage after I suffered knee pain after a near-fall in the time trial. I haven’t raced since I abandoned the Tour this summer, so I have to wait and see how my form is. But the course suits me. The stage finishing in Geraardsbergen definitely should have my name in fat marker on it under normal circumstances.”
A third former winner we can reveal is Matej Mohoric. The Slovenian has already won two stages in the Renewi Tour and also won the general classification in 2018.
Another outstanding rider who will add colour to the Renewi Tour is Thibau Nys. After a strong spring and his first participation in the Tour de France, he will make his debut in the Renewi Tour. Lidl-Trek will field a strong team featuring several key riders. Nys will be joined by two-time stage winner Jasper Stuyven, who will finish the final stage in his hometown of Leuven, and Czech Champion Mathias Vacek.
This season’s revelation Paul Magnier, who won a stage in the Tour of Poland last week, will also attend. Top sprinter Olav Kooij, twice successful in the Giro, will battle it out in the bunch sprints with European Champion Tim Merlier and Biniam Girmay, who, after several podium places in the Tour, wants to put the other fast men under pressure.
Euro Shop Kids Ride in Ardooie
The Renewi Tour not only has a strong focus on sustainability and ecology, but organiser Golazo also tries to bring the event closer to the fans every year. During the second stage, on Thursday 21 August, the youngest cycling fans will get their moment to shine on the official course.
The Euro Shop Kids Ride in Ardooie invites children up to the age of 12, divided into three categories, to experience their own race. From 1.30 p.m. to 2.30 p.m., they will ride their laps before the professional peloton from Blankenberge takes over the local circuit.
