With a stage win for Matej Mohoric and second place for overall winner Colbrelli, the Benelux Tour could not have panned out any better for their Bahrain-Victorious team. At the finish Colbrelli was quick to credit his team for his success, and praised Mohoric for his stage win on Sunday.
“Matej’s win was a huge effort, he’s known for that sort of ride,” said Colbrelli. “My overall win is the result of the work of our entire team. We played it perfectly today. On the first lap of the final I got in trouble with mechanical issues, but my legs were good enough to play my part at the end.”
The Benelux Tour is the first World Tour stage win for Italian champion Colbrelli, who is hoping to maintain his form until the world championships in Belgium later this month. “It was a tough week in which you needed to be concentrated from the first day to the last to not lose any time, from the echelon stage in Friesland to the final stage in Geraardsbergen. I am happy I managed to win the race and I hope I can keep this form until the world championships.”
