A spectacular finale to the queen stage of the Renewi Tour with two Belgians in the very front. Defending champion Tim Wellens had the ideal fellow escapee in Belgian Champion Arnaud De Lie with a wide enough gap to grab the overall win.
The bull from Lescheret won in his tricoloured champion’s jersey for the first time. Second place in the stage and a 47-second lead was more than enough for a fourth overall win in the Renewi Tour. An absolute record! On the final podium, Wellens was flanked by Alec Segaert and Per Strand Hagenes.
Tim Wellens, Overall Winner Renewi Tour: “A fantastic day that went perfectly”
‘It was a perfect day. I had a good feeling and never really had to go over my limit. Although this fourth overall victory really wasn’t a given. Arnaud De Lie was the perfect companion to have at the front though. He was no threat for the overall win so it soon became clear that he could win the stage. I told him that pretty soon so that the collaboration remained optimal. He won deservedly, of course, because even in a sprint he would most probably have won. So, in the end a fantastic day that went perfectly.”
